Ruth joined Brainworks in 2018 as a Registered Psychotherapist in the Gravenhurst and Muskoka region, providing counselling intervention, consultation and assessment to clients. Bringing with her a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University, teaching certificates for both adults and children, along with a diploma in Expressive Arts Therapy from CREATE Institute in Toronto, Ruth’s goal is to gently guide clients towards moving forward in their own healing process and feeling empowered in their lives.
Compassionate, resourceful, creative and supportive, Ruth is committed to helping clients in finding coping mechanisms that work best for them as an individual. It is important to Ruth when working with families that they feel heard and that their loved one is supported through the difficulties that they could not always understand or did not know how to support. Ruth has helped individuals learn how to connect with themselves post-injury and work with them to move forward and learn to connect with others at their own pace.
Ruth works with clients in a genuine creative narrative approach, listening to all aspects of their pain and suffering. Seeing the parallel strengths/act of resistance that have led to survival and moving forward collaboratively towards self-acceptance, empowerment and creating a new story they want to share with others.
Ruth’s goal as a psychotherapist is to continue learning, growing and sharing with others while using innovative therapy tools that help fit individuals in their unique lives. Ruth strives to help clients achieve self-awareness and self-acceptance, discover/rediscover strengths and coping mechanisms, which will increase their quality of life and help them feel they are living meaningful lives in the community.
